Standing an impressive 17hh, built like a warmblood but adorned with the most gorgeous curly coat was one of the Curly worlds most recognized sport horses, Spartagon. Because the average Curly was too small, Curly stallion Spartacus was paired with a Holsteiner mare to produce a taller more athletic mount for Dan Kreitl. The pair made their mark in horse sport working their way up the Eventing levels in the USA.

Spartagon has been an inspiration for my journey of breeding curlies for the competitive Sport market.

Dorfkind G

Curly German Riding Pony

I was ECSTATIC when I first came across this guy.

While I have not seen evidence of a competitive record, I include him on this page because he is the very first European riding pony I have seen with a curly coat.
He was presented to Westfalen for their German Riding Pony division.

He was produced by taking a SP6 Curly mare and mating her with a German Riding Pony (Westfalen) stallion.

“Marley”

Sandy Hendrickson, one of the first breeders who started using sportier blood to mix with her Curly stallion (Spartacus) produced this Curly gelding.
With owner/rider Lynda McNeely the pair excelled in the dressage ring working up to Prix St. Georges level. A great achievement for any horse but incredible to see a Curly horse in this spot light.
